

Chuck passed away after an extended and courageous four-year battle against cancer. While the cancer ultimately claimed his life, Chuck's refusal to stop fighting this disease gave him extra time to spend with his family and loved ones.Chuck is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 53 years; his son Charles and wife Colette; his son Chris and fiancé Daniele; his son Greg and his wife Margaret. His Grandchildren include: Daniel, Kaitlyn, Josh, Shannon, Jacob, Jimmy and Jessica. He is the oldest brother to Robert, Gary, and David Crannell, Donna Henderson, Ann Butterick and Caryn Iwamoto.As a teenager Chuck and his family relocated from his childhood home of Waterloo, Lowa, to San Jose. He graduated from Willow Glen High School. He earned his Bachelor Degree from San Jose State University and then his Masters Degree from Santa Clara University.Chuck dedicated the next 38 years of his life to teaching high school business, computers and work experience classes with a majority of that time spent at Piedmont Hills High School and later at Independence High School. He was instrumental in organizing student competitions between the various East Side Union High School District business students. He especially enjoyed working with students who needed extra support and help.When Chuck retired, he continued helping others by volunteering at Sacred Heart Community Center, the Tech Museum and The Willows Community Center. Playing Bridge at Willows Community Center was his Wednesday/Thursday "hang-out" place for many years. Chuck was also a life member of the San Jose Elks Lodge #522, as well as a member of the San Jose Sir's R.V. group AKA "The Roving Roosters".Chuck had a passion for travel, learning about the local peoples and their culture. Together with his friends and family, Chuck traveled to almost every National Park in the United States and to six of the seven continents in the world.Friends and Family are invited to a Vigil Service at 5 p.m., Sunday, January 10th at Lima Family Memorial Chapel, 710 Willow St. San Jose. And a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Monday, January 11th at St. Christopher's Catholic Church 1576 Curtner Ave. San Jose.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sacred Heart Community Service, 1381 S. 1st St., San Jose.
