Demetrio Ortiz Acosta

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather lovingly called 'Dada’ on Wednesday, the 25th of July. He passed from this life peacefully and was surrounded by his loved ones.

Demetrio was born on September 18, 1936 in Urdaneta, Philippines to Francisca and Catalino Acosta. He was their second child and was a brother to Antonio, Beatrice, Onofre, Severo, Orlando, Ildefonsa, and Lolita.

Demetrio attended the University of Santo Tomas Medical School in the Philippines with his wife Rosa Jacob Bongolan. In 1971, he immigrated to San Francisco, California to join Rosa and to establish a new life for their family. Demetrio was employed at Armour and Conner Peripherals. After retirement, he enjoyed working at Crescent Jewelers.

Demetrio enjoyed cooking Filipino dishes, fishing, crabbing, farming, listening to music - especially to Victor Wood, following current events, spending time with his family and friends, and visiting his loved ones back home in the Philippines. He also loved custom tailored suits and getting dressed up for special occasions.

Demetrio was a longtime resident of San Jose where he and Rosa raised their family. Together, they celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Demetrio is survived by his loving wife, Rosa; his six children: Ronald, Roselle (Garvin), Romel (Julie), Robel (Marylou), Rolyn (Kevin) and Leah (Primo); sixteen grandchildren: Ronald (Lulu), Brandee, Alexa Paulina, Candice Jade (Kevin), Ashley, Jonathan, Jacob, Romel Jr., Christian, Sara, Lauren, Sofia, Matthew, William Valentine, Kate and Charlie Clark; and six great grandchildren: Mea, Erwin Jr., Brenden, Bella, Caleah, and Amaya Rose.
