Born on May 28, 1932, in San Jose, Don lived a full and inspiring life defined by faith, family, and friendship. He was preceded in death by Sharon, his beloved wife of 52 years. Together, they raised three daughters who survive him: Donna Bonne (Jeff), Debbie McDonald (Scott), and Sandy Apgar. Don also leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren—Jason, Dan, Ryan, Laura, James, Amber, Katie, and Jennifer—and eight great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride.
A proud Navy veteran, Don served during the Korean War. After returning home, he married Sharon Ann Eccles in 1954 and began building a career that led to the position of Superintendent at Central Service Plumbing before founding his own successful company, General Plumbing.
His amazing success allowed him to retire at the young age of 49. Don and Sharon enjoyed travel in their motor home and on cruises. He continued to build homes including his most cherished legacy, the cabin at Lake Tahoe where grandchildren are making new memories in the cabin “Papa Don” built. Don’s life was rich with purpose, laughter, and love. He will be remembered for his generosity, wisdom, wit, and unwavering commitment to inspire others to keep smiling.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Don’s life at a funeral service on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 12:00 noon, Chapel of the Roses, Oak Hill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Don’s life work and legacy, the family kindly requests donations be made to Living Water International. The organization is committed to bringing clean water, better health and opportunities across the globe.
