Frank John Mendiola

27 junio, 1950 – 23 agosto, 2020
Obituario de Frank John Mendiola
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park

On August 23, 2020, Frank John Mendiola lost his yearlong battle to cancer. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Olivia Soza Mendiola, and his son Alexander Mendiola.

A native of Ravenna Ohio, Frank graduated from Ravenna High in 1968, and from Kent State University in 1972 with a teaching degree in music. After graduation, he moved to Nashville, TN to begin his career in the music and theater industry. A few years later he earned a Master’s Degree from Kent State in Education. Then California beckoned him.

Frank made his home in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and San Jose. In Gilroy, Frank was owner of California Music & Video. He was also a respected singer, piano player, tuner and restorer. Known as Mr. Frank, with his son by his side, he was a mentor to many young men, teaching them the art of customer service and business ownership. Frank never knew a stranger, only a friend, never forgot a name, and always loved a good story. He wrote and performed the Gilroy Garlic Festival theme song, “Gilroy’s the One”. Four years ago, Frank landed his dream job playing piano weekly at the Mount Hamilton Grandview Restaurant in San Jose. In addition, Frank performed at many events in the Bay Area and donated his talents to many worthy organizations.

Frank and Olivia shared an unshakable devotion to one another. They were a team in every aspect of their lives, giving back to the community and to their large extended family and many friends. It was not uncommon for them to open their home to individuals needing shelter and support in their lives. Their marriage was inspiring.

Frank will be deeply missed by his wife and son, his grandchildren Ian and Xenia and son in-law Todd Leal, father John Mendiola, brother Fred Mendiola (Ravenna, Ohio), brother Rob Mendiola (Dee Dee), and nephew Marcus Mendiola (Alyssa) of San Juan Bautista. He is predeceased by his daughter, Jessica Leal, mother Ida Mendiola, and sister Loretta Mendiola.

In Frank’s memory and true spirit, contributions may be made to Carry the Vision. Org., a Gilroy organization dedicated to non-violence education. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
