

George Hurley of San Jose, California passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of December 22,2023 after a lengthy illness at the age of 84. He was born to George and Ailia Hurley on June 6, 1939 in Escanaba, Michigan where he participated in Golden Gloves Tournaments while attending Holy Name High School. After graduating in1957, George joined the Navy for 4 years stationed at a base in Hawaii completing active duty at Moffet Field in Mountain View.
He met his wife of 62years, Sharon, while at Moffet Field. After discharge he became a driver for Exchange Linen Company and then a driver for Ferrari Bros. Beer Distributors where he advanced to Merchandising.
He transitioned
to the Evergreen School District as a school bus driver and then to the Maintenance Dept. from which he retired. George was actively involved in a motorsport called Autocrossing competing for 20 years frst campaigning an Austin Healey and then a Lotus23B modifed car maintaining both vehicles for competition. The sport of soccer caught his eye and he soon became a soccer coach for his son, Paul’s,team graduating to refereeing adult leagues in Arizona, Louisiana, Texas and Hawaii. He became a referee instructor and performance evaluator.
George is survived by his wife, Sharon, his daughter,Shari and his son, Paul,grandaughter, Ashlee Barclift, grandsons, Barry Sullivan and Fletcher Hurley,his brothers, Patrick and Bill Hurley and brothers-in-law, Gary and GregLandi,his sister-in-law,Madelyn (Bob) Walker and several nieces, nephews and their families. Services will be held Wednesday,January 10th at 7 p.m. at Lima Family Erickson Mortuary 710 Willow Street,San Jose, CA 95125 and Funeral Mass on Thursday,January 11th, 10:30 a.m. atSt. Francis of Assisi Parish,5111 San Felipe Road, San Jose, CA 95135. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2650 Madden Avenue, San Jose, CA 95116. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity in George’s name.
