

At age 19, Jerry entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) where he remained for 12 years.
After leaving before ordination, he began a long career as a teacher and counselor with the East Side Union High School District in San Jose, California. As head of the Counseling Department he developed many innovative programs. He authored a book on preventing crime and violence in the schools. Jerry developed a school-based inter-agency approach for coordinating services for students and their families. It was awarded a grant by the state and he traveled throughout the country giving presentations and workshops.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor; daughter Karen (Bill) Lonsdale, son Michael (Jennifer), granddaughters Ella and Lauren Lonsdale, McKenna and Keira Mullins, grandson Alex Mullins, sister Priscilla Cereghino, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Patrick, brother Richard and wife Virginia, sisters and brother-in-laws Patricia (Nicc Nichols), Noreen (Joseph Trutmann), Marilyn (Frank McGree), and Peter Cereghino.
A Funeral Mass will be held in San Jose at Holy Spirit Parish, 1200 Redmond Avenue, on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos, CA 94024 at 2:00 p.m.
