October 29, 1938 – September 17, 2012
With great sadness we acknowledge the passing of G. Lynn Kelly, loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather, brother and devoted friend of the residents of Willow Glen, in San Jose, California. Lynn passed away, peacefully, at home on Monday. Lynn was surrounded by the love of his life Michele, his wife of 46 years, his sons James and Michael, his nephew Christoper Kelly and James' girlfriend Stefanie Southern.
Lynn was born to Drs. Alice and James B. Kelly, October 29, 1938 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania. He attended St. Anselm Grad School and Edgewood High School. Those who have known Lynn over the years know he is an avid sports fan with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco Giants right at the top of the list.
He was so very loved and cared for by his wife, Michele, his sons James and Michael, and his daughter-in-law, Sheri, his soon to be born granddaughter, Olivia Lynn Kelly, and his nephew Christopher Kelly.
Lynn was the third in a family of five and is survived by his brother Robert and his wife Bertha and their four children, and his sister Jane Kelly Donohue, her husband Dennis and their daughter, Ellen.
While attending St. Anselm Grade School, he stared in "The Student Prince". His performance was the harbinger of the gift of his beautiful singing voice that he shared with so many including the last 30 years with the Folk Group at St. Christoper's Catholic Church. Lynn was also a loyal alumna of Edgewood High School in Edgewood, PA. Over the past 53 years, Lynn has attended every major alumni event and remains close friends with many former classmates.
Lynn proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 - 1963.
While Lynn's extended family lived on the east coast, he attended every family event, wedding and reunion. Including flying across the country to comfort his sister, Mary in N. Carolina as she was losing her 20 year struggle with MS. His beautiful voice was a gift to his youngest niece, Ellen, in singing the Ave Maria at her wedding in Savannah, GA.
Lynn was predeceased by his parents Drs. Alice V. and James B. Kelly, his eldest brother Dr. James L. Kelly and his sister Mary Kelly Ritter.
Lynn was a wonderfully loving and incredible husband and father. He will be remembered for many, many things: love of sports, tasting great food and wine, and traveling the world with his lovely wife, Michele. He will be remembered most for his generous spirit and warm, engaging personality. While always a lover of all things "Pittsburgh", his real heart and soul resided in all thins, "California" and his lovely little town of Willow Glen. Everyone will remember his friendship and generous spirit. His participation as a walk leader for the Avon 60 Mile Breast Cancer Walk in 2000 was just another example of his dedication to his community. And, on a beautiful, sunny and breezy day, you would find him enjoying his greatest "sport" while sharing great stories with his friends and flying any one of his very complicated kites at the kite park. His warm smile and generous spirit are reflected in his sons and will be passed on to his new and very first granddaughter, Olivia Lynn.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation and Rosary on Thursday evening at 7pm at the Lima Family Memorial Chapel, 710 Willow Street, San Jose. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00am at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 2278 Booksin Ave, San Jose.
