Giuseppe “Nonno” Visconti passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on October 14, 2022 at the age of 91. He was born on August 16, 1931 in Bagheria, Sicily, and was the third oldest of nine children - one of seven brothers and two sisters. At a very young age, Giuseppe was traveling solo by train to venture to other parts of Italy as a young business man to help provide for his parents and family back at home. His strength, confidence, and ability to talk with and make friends with so many undoubtedly started from his younger years.
About 10 years later, Giuseppe found his bride and now family treasure, Caterina “Nonna” Scire, and the two eloped, unbeknownst to their families. They exchanged vows in the church, and soon thereafter, started that which would grow into the loving Sicilian family it is today.
In the early 1960s he set out and traveled to America by himself, not knowing the English language, but determined to give his family a better life, and to live the coveted "American Dream." Giuseppe took his dream, and made it quite the reality. His beloved wife journeyed to meet Giuseppe with their first born, who was nine years-old at the time, and their second child, 5 years-old. She traveled by herself, with two small children, not speaking a word of English, before she finally reached Giuseppe where they settled down in San Jose, California.
Over the years, Giuseppe has been a friend, mentor, and “Nonno” to innumerable people: his family first and foremost, friends of his family, the students he met while working at local schools, the associations and groups he was a part of, not to mention his entire neighborhood. If Giuseppe could be described in one sentence, it would be this: Pick yourself up, don’t make excuses, work hard always, make life happen, and love each other. He will be missed by so many and his legacy will continue on in the lives of his family.
We love you Nonno. Riposa in pace (rest in peace) and "gloria pradiso."
