Son of Johann Albert Schellenberg and Marie Huber, born in Frauenfeld, Canton Thurgau, Switzerland on October 28,1929. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings Max and Kurt. Survived by wife Carol H. Stewart; sons Hans Christopher (Darwan) and Steve James (Maria); step-son Carl A. Stewart (Monique); and grandchildren Ethan Schellenberg, Derek, and Jasmine Stewart.
Hans witnessed the impact of WWII in neutral Switzerland, which deeply affected him. He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from ETH Zurich and worked in Dundee, Scotland, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he met and married Frances Evelyn Heiden. They moved to the Bay Area, where Hans had a successful career at Fairchild, Electroglas Inc and Amdahl for 20 years.
Hans was a devoted father, instilling a passion for technology in his sons, who became successful engineers. An avid Amateur Radio Operator, Hans was known as “WB6KFO” and was well-known in Menlo Park, for having the house with the massive steel tower and antenna in his backyard. You could not miss it!
Fluent in Swiss German, Hans also learned Italian in retirement. He loved swimming in Lake Zurich and spent summers in Europe, often in Zurich. After Frances passed away in 2004, Hans spent a lot of time in his beloved Switzerland. But he was very lonely. Fortunately for Hans, he met Carol through a mutual friend and after a few years together they married. Hans and Carol loved each other very much and continued traveling and meeting people and making friends. Hans was very fortunate to have Carol in his life and was no longer lonely.
Hans was a beloved father and husband, kind caring and empathetic man who will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who knew him.
