Jess was born in Dallas, Texas to Benjamin and Elvira Escobar in 1933 and the youngest of 8 children. He came to California as a young boy with his family, seeking new and better opportunities. He attended James Lick High School in San Jose and soon after graduating, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. After learning that the US Marine Corps were the toughest of the armed forces, he took his draft letter to the recruiters at the Marine office and was soon at Camp Penalton followed by a 30-day boat trip in a frigate, headed to the front lines of the Korean War as a gunner.
After returning from the war he had small jobs including working on the assembly line at GM in Fremont, a milk man for Berkeley Farms, a donut delivery man and finally a bread delivery man for Kilpatrick’s Bakery (now Bimbo) for over 30 years. During his free time, he enjoyed playing golf. Lots of golf and was a 7 handicap. He was a very proud man who enjoyed his danish and sweets and had lewd sense of humor.
All are invited to attend a service in his honor on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00am at Oak Hill Memorial Park where he'll be laid to rest. Family and friends are asked to meet at the lobby where a procession will lead to his Graveside at the Garden of Faith location where there will be a service followed by a reception at Oak Hill in a soon-to-be-announced room.
Serving as pallbearers are his son: Chris Escobar, nephews: Steve Ramirez and Don Escamilla, his son-in-law: Matt Tester and Chris’ childhood friends: Paul Aguire and Scott Copper.
In lieu of flowers, we wish donations be made to Homes For Our Troops at www.hfotusa.org
