Beloved husband of the late Eva Moitoso Soares. Devoted father of Judith Chaves (John) of Idaho and Geraldina Alvernaz (Eddie) of San Jose. Cherished Grandfather of Michael and Steven Chaves, Stephanie DaRosa (Michael), Robert Alvernaz, and Cristina Chaves. Adored Great Grandfather of Jayden DaRosa and Mason Chaves. Loving Brother of Palmira Dutra, Conceição Carepa, Etelvina Vargas, Olimpia Mendonca, Judy Goulart, all of San Jose, Lucia Soares of Portugal, António Soares of Faial, Lino Soares of Los Banos, Mario Soares of Elk Grove, and the late Léo Soares, Avelino Soares, Maria De Jesus Higashi, Herculano Soares, and Lucia Soares. Joe also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Joe was a longstanding Member of I.E.S. of San Jose, Five Wounds Portuguese National Church, and the IDES Supreme Council. He worked at Lockheed Martin for 36 years and in the funeral profession for 30 years. Joe will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services to be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Five Wounds Portuguese National Church, with viewing from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Rosary at 11 am followed by mass at 11:30 am. Committal services at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 1 pm.
