November 9, 1962 – March 24, 2023
Lawrence “Larry” Kraus, beloved husband and father, died at home on Friday, March 24, 2023, from cancer at age 60. Born in Salem, Oregon as the youngest of five, he moved with his family to the Sacramento area as a young child. After graduating from UC Berkeley, Mr. Kraus had a long and productive career as a hardware design engineer in Silicon Valley, where he led/oversaw development of complex test electronics systems. His colleagues remember him as a brilliant thinker whose problem solving abilities helped advance test design. He cofounded and led an innovative company from startup to IPO before moving on to other prospects, concluding his long career with TDK InvenSense. A true Renaissance man, Mr. Kraus’s talents stretched far beyond engineering into the arts. His poetry was a feature of San Jose’s live poetry scene, where he met his wife, Romany Grant, in the early 1990s. The couple founded the literary magazine Compact Bone and performed at multiple poetry events during that decade. Mr. Kraus was also a talented drummer who played in local bands and loved playing music with his friends late into the night. His ability to think out of the box led him to numerous other hobbies, from flying small engine aircraft, reptile husbandry, to board games. Predeceased by parents Matthew and Agnes (Drapeau) Kraus, he is survived by his wife, Romany; children Jensen and Veronica Kraus; siblings Carol (Matt) Greenan, Sue (Wes) Bennett, Paul (Marie Beauchamp) Kraus, and Barbara (Karl Schweitzer) Kraus; as well as extended family and numerous friends. A kind and generous friend, faithful husband, and loving father, Mr. Kraus will be dearly missed.
The family would like to extend gratitude to Dr. Whang and Dr. Bien of Kaiser Santa Clara as well as members of the home hospice care team. Arrangements provided by Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, CA, 95125, phone (408) 297-2447.
