Marilyn peacefully entered into rest on December 11, 2022 at the age of 81. A bright light to all who knew her, she was always happiest when she was spending time and sharing stories with those she loved. In 1964, after graduating from Fresno State University with a degree in journalism, she began a career as the society page editor for her local newspaper where she was able to share the stories of people in her community. She married the love of her life, Gilbert Bray, in February 1965 and started a family shortly thereafter. With the birth of their first child, Marilyn left the newspaper and devoted her life to caring for her family. While raising four young children, she also loved being involved in her community – as a leader of the PTA at her children’s school, a volunteer at the local library and a devoted babysitter for several different children over the years. Her loving touch and sparkling eyes will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to know her.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Luca Marco Cancilini (1916-1982) and Rose Thelma (Podesta) Canclini (1915-1983). She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gilbert Bray, her sister Arlene Farrell (Russell), her children Rebecca Jackson (James), Patricia Bray, Christopher Bray (Dailene), Matthew Bray (Meredith) and eight grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the Chapel of Roses at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose on December 30, 2022, with viewing and reflection from 1:00-2:00 pm and a funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Three Flames restaurant in San Jose. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Marilyn to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
