Marilyn Mariko Ito (Uyeda) (September 15, 1936) passed peacefully at home on October 9, 2025. Since 2019, she had been struggling with a lung condition that eventually took her life. Marilyn lived a life defined by compassion, resilience, and deep devotion to her family.
In 1979, at just 42, she faced the unimaginable loss of her beloved husband, Shunji Ito. She continued forward with courage and resilience, raising her four children — Scott (Cindy), Doug Ito, Traci (Troy), Kari (Michael) —grandchildren, and great grandchild—with unconditional love, wisdom, laughter, and spunk.
She was more than a mother; she was a guiding light, a safe place, and the heart of our family. Her kindness extended far beyond her home—she was a cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie, and a loyal friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth could fill a room, her humor could lift any spirit, and her unwavering belief in others inspired everyone around her.
She was the first person in her family to graduate from college then go onto graduate school. She served as a certificated school nurse before she retired. She enjoyed being a nurse, but loved being a Ba (grandmother) more than anything. She cheered on each grandchild at their endless games, races, and performances just like she did as a mother. She also spent hours volunteering for schools, sports leagues, the American Heart Association, and Good Samaritan Hospital. She believed in devotion of family and service. Her presence is already sorely missed but her love of life will forever remain in our hearts.
The remembrance of Marilyn’s remarkable life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin (640 N 5th St. San Jose, CA 95112) at 11:00am followed by a graveside service at 1:30pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park (300 Curtner Ave San Jose, CA 95125). All who knew and loved her are welcome. In lieu of flowers the family asks you donate to the American Heart Association.
