I was sorry to learn today, 11/19/2025, that Mike passed away in August. I went to San Jose State with him and he was such a good and funny guy. I didn't see him often, but when we met we talked about old times at SJSU and laughed a lot. Anyone that knew him has to know what a great loss this was.

We grew up in the embrace of an Italian family, where Sundays meant gathering at Grandpa Carmen’s house, the air rich with stories and the aroma of Grandma’s cooking. In that world, Mike was a constant—ten years older, endlessly curious, and always ready with a story or a quiet moment. He was the kind of presence you never questioned, because he was simply always there.

Mike had a gift: a relaxed disposition that made you feel safe, heard, and seen. He could talk forever or sit in silence—it didn’t matter. What mattered was that he was with you. He was someone I looked up to, someone I loved deeply, and someone who shaped the rhythm of my life in ways I’m still discovering.

In May, I had the gift of three uninterrupted days with him. We talked for hours. I finally told him my story—how I met my wife in Hawaii, our time in California, settling in Wisconsin, building a family and a business. I poured it all out, and he listened like it was a movie he didn’t want to end. I gave him something rare: the full arc. not just the polished highlights, but the messy, beautiful truth of everything I had been through.  When my father arrived, Mike looked at him and said, “You have a good son here. He’s been through a lot and done a lot.” That moment will stay with me forever.

I wish we had more time. I wish we could have spent our retirements traveling the world together, discovering new places, and deepening the bond that began in childhood. But I’m grateful for what we did share—and for the reminder that time is precious. Never take for granted those you hold dear. Spend the time now, not later.

Mike, you were never forgotten, and now you’ll never be gone. You live in the stories, the laughter, the quiet moments, and the love we carry forward. I love you. I miss you. And I’ll honor you by living fully, just as you did—with curiosity, warmth, and presence.

I have known Mike since we were born.
My mother, Edith Rosenberg, was friends with Marianne. When Edith was attending San Jose high school, she told Marianne that she thought Mike Sr. was "very clean-cut." That was important to my mom. She introduced Marianne to Mike, they started dating, and eventually they got married. I remember going to their house as a child. Then Mike Jr. and I attended different elementary and junior high schools so we didn't see each other, until freshman algebra at Del Mar, where we had a lot of laughs.  A year ago at our 50th reunion, I ate dinner with Mike and we had lots to talk about. A few months ago I heard he was in the hospital with cancer. We talked on the phone a couple of times and he was his usual upbeat self with a great sense of humor. He told me he was going to beat this thing. ... Rest in peace, my friend.

Mike was an all-around great guy. He always had a huge smile and was interested in what you had to say.  Although it’s been many years since high school when we knew each other, he’s the type of guy that just always stays in your mind. I will miss him and always smile when remembering him and he always has a spot permanently in my heart. My condolences to Joy and John and Mike’s children and nieces and nephews.

Our love to all the Masiello family. Michael was such a sweet, gentle man. I have known him since his birth. We were in Mary and Ron’s wedding together; he the ring barer, me the Jr. bridesmaid. My favorite ring barer.

I’m so shocked and sad to hear this. It was only last August that I had such a nice visit with him at our 50 year High School Reunion. I had not seen him since our high school graduation. 

In December 1970, I went on my very first date ever with him. He asked me to the Annual Christmas Dance . It was our freshman year. I remember that his dad drove us to the dance . It was at the high school . His younger sister Joy was in the front seat. She was still in grade school.  If I remember correctly,  his dad  had a beautiful black mustang. I always loved cars so I thought it was so neat. 

My heart goes out to his entire family, 
his wife and children. May you all feel comfort in the arms of God and I hope you feel his presence every day. 🙏🙏🙏
