Michael is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann, and his parents, Nadine and James Guiffrida, along with his stepfather, Calvin Meidinger. He is survived by his two sons and their families, along with his sisters and their families. James and Jenna with their sons Calvin, and Logan, who is soon to be born, along with Andrew and Kayleigh and their children, Ryan, Jacob and Mary. His sisters and their families are Cheryl and Lou Romani, Jill Bangart, and Mari and Jeff Decker.
Michael was born and raised in Santa Clara, graduating from Santa Clara High in 1968, along with his future wife, Mary Ann. They did not meet until after graduation but were married for 33 years before Mary passed from her battle with cancer in 2009. When Michael was 3 and a half, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He was very diligent with his Diabetes care and was proud to keep his blood sugar in a normal range for so long.
When Mike was considering a career, his stepfather encouraged him to get into the heating and air conditioning field. This was a great choice for him as he loved his job and fully enjoyed working as a union sheet metal technician with SMW Local 104. Cal and Michael would travel to work on commercial kitchen builds since Cal was a stainless-steel specialist. They traveled out to Lake Tahoe, Reno, and even out to Idaho to build kitchens in casinos and restaurants.
During baseball season, you could likely find Mike watching the San Francisco Giants at home. Seeing the Giants win three World Series titles was amazing for him. His other passions included muscle cars and his chow-chow dogs.
A viewing is planned for May 8th at Oak Hill Cemetery from 9 am to 8 pm, followed by a graveside funeral service on May 9th at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Diabetic charities such as the Diabetic Youth Foundation, or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
