She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings: Ted Ikeda, Masako Ikeda, Annabelle Ikeda, Rosie Ikeda, Ernest Ikeda, and Samuel Ikeda. Nancy leaves behind her only and wonderful son Ted Baldwin, her daughter-in-law Gillian Baldwin and her grandchildren: Clara Baldwin and Walter Baldwin.
Nancy was born in Alviso, CA to Ted Ikeda and Masako Ikeda. Nancy was their fourth child out of five. Nancy was a proud Japanese-American.
During World War II, Nancy spent a part of her life held against her will at internment camps. Nancy also overcame a diagnosis of stage-four breast cancer in her lifetime. Known for her kind heart, one would not have ever assumed that Nancy endured such adverse life experiences.
Nancy went to California School for Deaf, Berkeley and later Gallaudet University. She was married twice and in her first marriage, she gave birth to her only son. She spent the remainder of her life as a determined single mother raising Ted Baldwin. Devoted to serving the public, Nancy worked at the US Postal Office until her retirement in the mid-2000s. An active member of her congregation, she served as the leader of the prayer team.
Known for her talkative nature, stubbornness, and independence—at 90 years old, Nancy was still going 75 MPH on I-580. She had a signature American Sign Language accent that not many could immediately understand, but learning it was an acquired skill.
A devout Christian, Nancy is reunited with her Savior–a moment she has been looking forward to her entire life. She is also reunited with her best friend of more than 70 years, Elaine Atkins.
