Paul Durwood Johnson was born in Sidney, Texas on December 26, 1921 and passed away in San Jose, California on February 8, 2018. He served in the United States Army from 1942 through 1946. During that time, he met his wife Florence and they were married on June 3, 1944. Florence and Paul have two daughters, Paulette and Janice, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. They were also known as “grandparents” to numerous kids in their neighborhood and, although they may not have been related by blood, they felt in their hearts a connection to those children and loved them as if they were their own. Florence and Paul were married for 66 years until Florence’s passing on June 28, 2010.
Paul was a well-known figure at Alum Rock Little League, often referred to as “Paul You’re Outta Here Johnson”. As a testament to his dedication and years of service as an umpire, the Alum Rock Little League baseball field was named in his honor in April 2016. Paul will be dearly missed by his family and his community as he had a positive impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
