Dick attended Van Nuys High School. He was a man of intelligence, kindness, compassion, and great civility. He always saw both sides of every situation. He graduated from Stanford with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1956 and married Pat Holve.
He spent three years in the Marine Corps, then returned to California to earn his master’s degree during a time of major technological growth in the Bay Area. He joined IBM as his first employer and later left to join a startup. After some time, Dick and a partner started their own company, Zentec, where he served as President for several very successful years. Always an entrepreneur, Dick moved on to another startup in the sporting arena, where he had the opportunity to meet athletes like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and others.
Next came years of remodeling homes in Willow Glen, San Jose, which gave him an outlet for his artistic talents.
Throughout all of this, Dick was a wonderful father to our two children, Rebecca and Curt, and a loving grandfather to Zoe and Alexander, Curt’s children. Being a creative and artistic person, he loved photography, and our home is filled with many of his beautiful photos. Dick and Pat traveled extensively for many years, visiting numerous countries around the world and capturing countless memories through his lens. He also loved sports, especially Stanford football, and enjoyed forty years of tailgating with friends and family.
We will deeply miss his calm demeanor, wise advice, and his love for life, family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 5th, at 11 AM, at Willow Glen Funeral Home, 1039 Lincoln Ave, San Jose, CA 95125. If you would like to honor Dick with a gift, please consider donating to: San Jose Day Nursery, 33 North 8th Street, San Jose, CA 95112.
