Our Beloved Rita Elaine Stevens was born in Loup City, Nebraska on June 27, 1950. She was the second of two girls born to Lewis Dickerson and Avis Jean Dickerson. In the mid-1950's the family moved from the Midwest to Sunnyvale, California where Rita attended DeAnza Elementary School, and then later, Mango Junior High. Among Rita's early interests were ballet and flute, the latter of which she continued to pursue into her high school years at Fremont High School. There she played the flute in both the marching band and the concert band.
In late 1968, Rita married Larry Stevens who would be her husband for more than 54 years. Soon After they married, Rita and Larry moved to Azusa, California, where Larry was Finishing his college degree. In 1970 they moved back to the Bay Area where the two began raising a family and Larry started his teaching career. Over the course of 10 years, Larry and Rita had four children. Rita was a primary caregiver, proving herself to be a loving mother and skilled household manager. In addition to adeptly managing schedules and finances of the family of six. Rita also homeschooled three of her four children for various period of time.
Rita maintained an interest in music throughout her life that she generously shared with others, teaching primarily piano, but also flute to many neighborhood children and other local students over the course of 30 years. Rita also pursued her interest in music at the First Baptist Church of Los Altos, where she participated in various vocal music programs.
Rita loved children and was a natural caretaker. Even after having her children, she volunteered at the church nursey and taught children's Sunday school classes for several years. Later on, in life after becoming a grandmother, she took great joy in spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her husband Larry; her children, Christy Stevens, Rex Stevens, Scott Stevens, and Julie Morelos; her eight grandchildren; and her sister, Vivian Dickerson. She will be greatly missed.
