Ruben H. Vargas, of San Jose, California - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on June 26, 2022, at the age of 89. He will be immensely missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.
Ruben was born on August 15, 1932, in Cuquìo, Mexico. In 1970, Ruben met Juanita Lozano Gallo in Yahualica, Jalisco -Mexico. Ruben and Juanita were married on November 13, 1971, and went on to have 4 children, Alicia, Martha Alicia, Armida, and David.
Ruben was a hard worker and a self-made man that persevered through difficult beginnings due to his resilience in the face of unimaginable adversity. He loved music, nice shoes, dressing well, and caring and providing for his family. He loved taking his family on trips and spoiling his children and wife. Ruben was charismatic, funny, faithful, and overwhelmingly generous, and his smile and laughter were infectious. He was endlessly tinkering and working with his tools, constantly building and fixing things. He loved great food, but enjoyed desserts most; his favorites were coconut cream pie, chocolate candy, bread, and anything sweet. His eyes were gray or greenish-blue depending on his mood. He took great joy in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He taught and encouraged his family to grow, learn, and how to plant seeds, literally and figuratively. Spending time with him at the “Ranchito” was very rewarding and harvesting vegetables and knowledge with him are memories we will never forget.
Ruben is survived by his wife, Juanita Vargas, his children, Martha Alicia, Armida, and David, by his grandchildren; Jenny Michelle, Jose Alfredo Jr., Martin Ruben, Raquel Silvia, Andrew Guillermo, Angel Gustavo, James David, Lydia Irene, Leilani Alyssa, and Emily Joanne, and his great-grandchildren; Jose Alfredo III, Adrian Isaiah, and Christian Isaac, as well as his extended family, and friends that he touched during his life, who loved him dearly. Ruben was greeted in heaven by his mother Maria de Jesus Vargas, his daughter Alicia, his uncle Salvador, his brother Gilberto, his sister Josephina, and many other family members that loved him.
May he rest in peace.
