Scott Robert Nielsen passed away from natural causes on March 14, 2025 at the age of 56. He is survived by his father, Kenneth (Ken) Nielsen, his mother, Sandra (Sandy) Nielsen, his sister, Kimberly (Kim) Nielsen, and numerous family and friends.
Born on April 4, 1968, he spent his childhood in Steger, IL. He graduated in 1986 from Bloom Trail High School. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Boston University in 1990. After living in Boston to complete his degree, he moved to San Francisco, CA. He lived most of his life in SF but also enjoyed some time living in San Jose and Los Angeles.
Scott had a lifelong love for reading, movies, theater, ballet and numerous other forms of art. Longing to find a way to support arts organizations, he pursued and achieved a Master of Public Administration in 2012 from San Francisco State University. He went on to work with and support several non-profit arts related organizations. His last endeavor was with Intersection for the Arts. For over a decade he left his mark at IFTA, always a steward for the arts community and dedicated to supporting artists.
He was also passionate about fighting for a society that is fair to all. For several years, Scott was a volunteer and Board Member with Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club. He was dedicated to the mission of improving lives by identifying and electing those who fight for inclusivity, integrity, diversity, and fairness. In recognition of his tireless work, he was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2017.
Although his time with us was too short, Scott leaves behind an incredible legacy of love, passion, friendship, and service. He was an amazing son, brother, friend, family, colleague, advocate, mentor and leader. He made an impact. He will be missed.
