

It is with a heavy heart to inform you that Sylvia Montalvo Scroggins Cerna 87, of Santa Clara, California , has passed away on September 14, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 18, 1937, parents of Claudine Scroggins and Leo Montavlo, was a cherished member of the community who touched the lives of many.
Sylvia Cerna grew up in Edinburg, Texas and attended boarding school abroad. After which moved to San Diego California and Married Joseph E. Torres sr. Where she thrived in sales for jewish jeweler and developed a passion for sales . After completing her Masters of Arts, at the College of San Mateo. She then embarked on a fulfilling career in job placement and later created her own job placement company, Cerna Associates ,LLC .
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Sylvia was devoted to her family and friends. She was a loving wife, parent, grandparent, always putting family first and nurturing those around her . Sylvia had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved, often hosting family gatherings and celebrations that brought joy to many. Further, she maintained an ability to make others laugh. Per her astrological sign, Sylvia proved herself to be a preeminent Aries.
Sylvia was also heavily involved in the DNC where she was a strong advocate primarily for the state of California. Sylvia worked on the steering committee for Diane Feinstein and was a close associate and Friend of Leon Panetta and Norman Y. Mineta . Where she dedicated her life to Civil Rights and all together assisting the DNC. Sylvia was a strong proponent in helping others in need and giving back to her family and worthwhile causes. She inspired her community around her wherever she went. .
On a lighter note, Sylvia enjoyed traveling. She routinely enjoyed reading the NY Times crossword tables as one of her favorite pastimes. Her command for both the English and the Spanish Language was impressively exemplary. The memories created during these pursuits will forever be cherished by her loved ones. Sylvia is survived by Joseph E Torres, Christina Cerna, and Cathy Cerna, and their grandchildren Cristina Cerna, Cathline Cerna, Sarah Torres, Nicole Torres, Anna Torres, and Samantha Torres. A Group of friends whom love her dearly.
A memorial service to honor Sylvia Cerna's life will be held on Friday October 4th, at St.Clara Parish 725 Washington Street , Santa Clara CA.at 12:30pm. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating her remarkable life.
Rest in peace, Sylvia. Your spirit, kindness, and unwavering love will continue to inspire us all.
