(“Phronie”) age 84, of San Jose, CA passed on August 14, 2021, at her home, with family by her side.
Veronica was born in Jacobs Prairie, MN January 05, 1937. She was raised on the family dairy farm
where she learned the value of hard work. Outside farm life, Roni worked in the field of optometry.
Roni met her beloved husband of 63 years, Charles Edward Gulan, in November of 1957 and were
married June 26, of the following year. Veronica & Charles embarked on a new chapter, striking out
West. Spending the early years in San Francisco, Burlingame & Mountain View, CA, eventually settling in suburban San Jose where she raised her 5 sons.
In addition to full-time homemaker, Roni was active in all of the boys sporting events and was a fixture
at the ballfields, keeping the scorebook and providing after game snacks and praise. Roni was a pillar of
the community always volunteering her time and talents. She was a devoted member of the
Transfiguration Catholic Church, and had given countless hours to the service of others in need. Her
kind heart touched so many. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for more than 50 years
and was awarded “Girl of the Year” by her sorority sisters.
Roni enjoyed reading, writing, sewing, crossword puzzles, Giants baseball and travel but most of all
spending time with family. Just about anything new that intrigued her, she would try her hand at. From
throwing her son’s newspaper route to rototilling the front yard, Roni was unafraid to roll up her sleeves
and give it a good old Minnesota run. She could sew a wedding dress and shingle the barn. Nothing
kept Roni on the sidelines.
As her loving husband always said, Veronica “Roni” was my human angel, one of God’s miracles from
heaven. How she had lovingly blessed him through all the years. Veronica is with God in His kingdom
and in the company of all of God’s angels. May she rejoice with all departed souls. Enjoy your eternal
life.
Veronica is survived by her husband Charles Edward Gulan of San Jose, by her children, Thomas Gulan
(Carol), Brian Gulan (Cheryl), Brad Gulan (Kathy), John Gulan (Jacqueline). Nine Grandchildren, Chuck
(Beth), Brett, Alex (Christina), Matthew (Kelly), Patrick, Bradley, Nickolas, Tyler and Riley. Preceded in
heaven by her eldest son, Charles John Gulan, 2017
Private services have been held, for family only, at Transfiguration Church. In lieu of flowers or
