

Carroll Walker Beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, Carroll Walker, passed away peacefully at The Tamalpais in Greenbrae on September 17, 2011 at the age of 91. Carroll was born on August 29, 1920 in Herrin, Illinois, and raised on a farm with his ten siblings. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1940 and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war, Carroll returned home to attend Southern Illinois University, and then moved to San Francisco with his wife, Jean, in 1947 to complete his education at the University of California, Berkeley. Carroll entered the life insurance business in 1948. During more than 60 passionate years in the life insurance industry he upheld the "dignity and high professional standard" associated with the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. He was a former President of the National CLU Society, a member in the industry's coveted Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), and a longtime chair of the Golden Key Society at the American College. He was active in a number of civic organizations including; President of the Marin County Boy Scout Council, Charter Member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, and a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors' Association, San Rafael Rotary Club, Marin Amateur Radio, Marin Masonic Lodge, and Marin Historical Society. Carroll was a devoted loving family man, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean, his sister Marilyn McMurry, daughters Nancy Walker Bassing and Linda Walker Smith Golzen, sons-in-law, Charles Bassing III and Robert Golzen, daughter-in-law Tracey Brown Walker, and his five grandchildren, Trevor, Katelynn, Connor, Hailey and Chas. He is predeceased by his son Gary Walker. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday October 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, 10 Bay View Dr, San Rafael.
