Conrad Henry Goerl, 93, of Fairfax, California passed away on Sunday August 25, at 2:37p.m., surrounded by his children and their spouses. Conrad was born on November 10, 1919, in Alameda, California. Upon graduating from Alameda High in 1938, he matriculated at the University of California at Berkeley, class of 1942, becoming a lifelong Cal Bears supporter and fan. A World War II veteran, he returned from the European theater to earn his law degree and C.P.A. license. He commenced his law practice in Ukiah, California, eventually moving to the Bay Area and opening his own sole practitioner law firm in Oakland which he maintained for more than 35 years. He retired from active practice after more than 50 years of membership in the California State Bar Association.
Some of his fondest memories as a young boy include spending summers in Sonoma with his grandmother, which was the source of numerous oft told tales in his later years. Conrad married the former Laverne Geraldo in a grand ceremony in San Francisco in 1955. Later he moved to Ukiah, enjoying hiking with his wife throughout Mendocino County. He eventually settled in Fairfax, purchasing in 1963, the home in which he lived until the end of his life. He was an exceptionally devoted father and loving husband.
Survivors include his son, Conrad Joseph Goerl, of Houston, Texas, his daughter, Marlene M. Goerl Cagdaser, of Sunnyvale, California, and five grandchildren, Conrad, Kevin, Sophie, Henry and Harun. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Laverne Gertrude Goerl, as well as his brothers, George Goerl and John Goerl.
Friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 31, at St. Rita's Church, 100 Marinda Drive, Fairfax, CA. There will be a reception at St. Rita's Hall immediately following the Mass. Thereafter, interment will be at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 270 Los Ranchitos Rd., San Rafael, CA at on Saturday, August 31, at 3:00 p.m.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday August 30, at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 E. St., San Rafael, CA . A rosary service will take place immediately following. Friends may call the mortuary for specific details. Memorial gifts to St. Rita's Parish or your favorite charity preferred.
