Lenore Adele Johnson Hicks, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 8th at Aldersly in San Rafael, her home for the past 4 years. First and foremost, Lenore was the dearly-loved matriarch of her family, treasured by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was born and raised in Vancouver, Washington, the youngest child of Norma and Malcolm Johnson, where she excelled in school and helped run her family’s orchard farm. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Washington State University in 1947, she entered Stanford University Hospital’s dietetic training program in San Francisco and later became a dietitian on the Stanford staff. She married Donald Hicks, who preceded her in death, on August 24, 1952 and remained his loving wife and companion for nearly 60 years. She and Don raised their family in San Mateo, California, where Lenore was active in her community, philanthropic endeavors, and was a dear friend to many. The couple moved to Fairfax in 1988 to be close to their grandchildren and Lenore became an admired role model in their lives. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo for 26 years, and a former Deacon. She and her husband loved to travel and enjoyed many post-retirement trips together. She is survived by her two sons, Greg (Rick Foster), and Gary (Cheri), grandchildren Tim Hicks, Molly Clavadetscher (James), Melissa Hicks and Maddie Hicks, great-grandson Jack Clavadetscher, and sister Dorothy Chase. Her brother, Donald Johnson, preceded her in death. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved Don in the Memorial Garden of the First Presbyterian in San Anselmo. A private celebration of her life will be held with 40 family members on January 21, 2017.
