Richard Anthony DeTata

Richard Anthony DeTata Age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Donna, his children and their spouses: Tressa and Jeff Bader, Alan and Wendy DeTata, his sister Rosemarie Osborn, his grandchildren Connor Ward, Eliana DeTata, and Noah DeTata, And his cat, Patches. He was preceded in death by his parents Tony and Rose DeTata. Richard was born and raised in San Rafael and attended San Rafael High Class of '49. He was an active member of the San Rafael High Alumni planning many reunions. After high school, Richard attended College of Marin and University of Colorado receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree and then continuing on to receive a master's degree in Marketing. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. In 1958, he began a 40 year career at C & H Sugar Company starting out as an order taker and working his way up to Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Richard married Donna Gregory in 1960 in San Rafael. They were happily married for 54 years. He enjoyed playing the piano, golf, tennis, fishing in Wyoming and travelling. He loved to entertain and was known for his humorous quick-wit. A memorial mass will be held at St Raphael's Church in San Rafael on Friday, June 5th, 2015 at 11:00AM. A gathering for family and friends will follow at San Rafael Joe's Restaurant at 931 4th Street, San Rafael. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation, dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease.
