22 febrero , 19358 noviembre , 2019

On Friday November 8, 2019, George Houle, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather passed away after a long illness at the age of 84 years. He lived in E. Sandwich, MA for most of his adult years. He was born in Hyannis on February 22,1935. Baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Ukrainian Church in Fall River May 13,1936. His parents, Henry Houle II and Anna (Hrenko) Houle, from Fall River, moved to Hyannis in 1931.

From a family of eight siblings he began work at an early age. Raising, slaughtering and selling chickens to help support the family. It taught him a lot about business, people and work ethic. He began his work career for Finest Supermarket and then as a prison guard. He also trained as a barber. He became a licensed field technician for the Cape Cod Gas Company (now National Grid) 32 years. He served as a board member, treasurer, and president of the company credit union over 17 years. He loved to relax by working his garden and tending his honeybees. He won the state championship in dairy cattle judging while attending Barnstable high school and then later in life, his love of working the earth produced many blue ribbons at the county fair. He was a member of the local Elk’s Lodge in Hyannis for many years and served as an officer of the lodge along with his father.

He is survived by his spouse Inge (Schmidling) Houle, his children Brenda Herbrig, George Brian Houle, Barbara Schauwecker, Barry Houle, Elona Cadman, Michelle Pederson and 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings Richard Houle, Patricia VanBuren, Anna Houle, and Paula Houle. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry II and Anna Houle, his first wife Clarice Gail Pate (mother of four of his children), siblings Gerald Houle, Henry III, Barabara Sheehan, and son John Cadman.

I'll miss your sound advice and friendship. I was so proud to be your Best Man and proud that you were mine. You help bring a shy and introspective boy out of his shell. You also taught me that family is important. I will be forever grateful for all the little things you have done for me because it's the little things that mean so much. I loved hearing you tell me stories and you gave me a few good ones to tell about you too. Life is to short and you were taken to soon but I look forward to the day that we meet again. I am sure you'll have some great stories to tell me, just like old times.

Grandpa, I will always remember your eyes let on that you knew more then your audience thought. That grin, the inevitable wink when you had someone all twisted from your stories. You are truly a man to remember. Be it from your family or your friends. Also, you will soon have two great grandchildren! I wish they could have met you here, one day you will meet and you can walk them and I, through the gardens I am sure you will be in care of when you do. Also if you would’t mind, try not to scare them or myself with that crazy dog Sparky! Love always, Dianne

We had such fun on our camping trips. It was always so much fun to tease George, and he took it in good nature. We will miss him.
Love George and Pat.

Growing up I always used to visit Grampa and help in the garden, so many fun adventures camping too. Grampa had a great sense of humour and loved to tease, he taught me how to stand up for myself and others. He also taught me to look deeper and not take things at face value. Grampa always had something to say and some sort of witty anecdote for every occasion. He definitely told some groaned too. I know he's keeping everyone in heaven on their toes with his antics and driving my other grandparents a bit batty.
