On Friday November 8, 2019, George Houle, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather passed away after a long illness at the age of 84 years. He lived in E. Sandwich, MA for most of his adult years. He was born in Hyannis on February 22,1935. Baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Ukrainian Church in Fall River May 13,1936. His parents, Henry Houle II and Anna (Hrenko) Houle, from Fall River, moved to Hyannis in 1931.
From a family of eight siblings he began work at an early age. Raising, slaughtering and
selling chickens to help support the family. It taught him a lot about business, people and
work ethic. He began his work career for Finest Supermarket and then as a prison guard.
He also trained as a barber. He became a licensed field technician for the Cape Cod Gas
Company (now National Grid) 32 years. He served as a board member, treasurer, and
president of the company credit union over 17 years.
He loved to relax by working his garden and tending his honeybees. He won the state
championship in dairy cattle judging while attending Barnstable high school and then later
in life, his love of working the earth produced many blue ribbons at the county fair.
He was a member of the local Elk’s Lodge in Hyannis for many years and served as an
officer of the lodge along with his father.
He is survived by his spouse Inge (Schmidling) Houle, his children Brenda Herbrig,
George Brian Houle, Barbara Schauwecker, Barry Houle, Elona Cadman, Michelle
Pederson and 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild as
well as many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his siblings Richard Houle, Patricia VanBuren, Anna Houle, and
Paula Houle. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry II and Anna Houle, his first
wife Clarice Gail Pate (mother of four of his children), siblings Gerald Houle, Henry III,
Barabara Sheehan, and son John Cadman.

p.m., Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA to be followed by a private burial.
