James Joseph Mahoney

Born in Everett, MA but raised in Charlestown and Roslindale, MA, a son of the late James and Mary (Shepard) Mahoney, Jr.

Mr. Mahoney had worked as a commercial fisherman for many years on various boats all over Cape Cod, but mostly in Sandwich where he fished from his own boat, the Puss-in-Boots. He was a Vietnam Era veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He was a master carpenter and enjoyed fishing, cooking and his Himalayan cats, and more recently spending precious time with his daughters and their families. In the company of his grandsons, his cancer pain melted away.

In addition to his wife of 19 years of marriage, Susan M. Plosinski, he is survived by his two daughters, Michelle Johnson and her husband Andrew of Hanover, MA and Kimberly Gallagher and her husband James of Kingston, MA; siblings Sheila Cosette, Kevin Mahoney and Joseph Mahoney; 4 grandchildren: James Gallagher, Stephen Gallagher, Ryan Gallagher and Aaron Johnson. He was predeceased by his sister Theresa Murphy.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service at 12 noon on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA. Visitation will be held prior to service 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the Humane Society, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or a charity of one's choice. No “online guestbook” expressions of sympathy respectfully requested.
