Windle, Jennifer Lynn (Mehrtens), 39, of Bourne, MA passed away on January 27, 2024 after living courageously with cancer. Surrounded by her loving family and friends, her final days were spent in her childhood home. Born on May 18th, 1984 in Falmouth, MA, she was the cherished daughter of George and Diane Mehrtens (Cona).
Raised in Bourne, Jennifer was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, after which she furthered her education at Endicott College, earning her associates degree in Interior Design.
Jennifer’s passion for flowers led her to a successful career as a florist, and to run her own small business, Just for You Florist. Her keen eye for design extended to fashion, where she excelled as a manager at Lane Bryant and Banana Republic, forging many friendships along the way.
Jennifer was vivacious, outgoing, and generous. She built amazing and loyal friendships throughout life, some from as early as preschool. She was an easy person to adore, and she reciprocated with immense love for those in her life.
Jenn had a fervor for music and dancing, and always considered the beach to be her happy place. Disney World also held a special place in her heart. Despite her growing health challenges, she was determined to visit with her son, a goal she thankfully and joyously realized last summer. Her love for games, trivia, and her infectious laugh brought joy to everyone in her presence. Jenn was simply silly in the best way.
Despite facing formidable challenges due to her illness over seven years, Jenn remained remarkably strong and optimistic. Jenn reacted to each new challenge presented by her disease with unwavering positivity and grace, regardless of how grave her prognosis became.
Her lifelong dream of finding love and starting a family was realized when she married Joel. Together, they had a son, Bennett Windle, the light of Jennifer's life. Jenn's radiant spirit and resilience emanated from her presence on earth, but will not be lost in her passing. She left an indelible mark on the world.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Joel with whom she shared 6 years together and 3 years of marriage, and their beloved son, 2 year old Bennett Windle. She also leaves behind her parents, her brother, Michael Mehrtens, of Falmouth, MA, and his wife Katy (Faria), and their two children Johanna and Dashel; her sister, Laurie Tucker, of West Hartford, CT, and her husband Robert and their three children, Mady Rose, Jackson, and Carter; as well as her best friends who were more like family, Colleen and Matt Pitts, of Mashpee, MA, and their daughter, Shealey, Jennifer’s goddaughter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 5th at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd, Pocasset, MA. Burial will follow at Sandwich Town Cemetery, Route 130, Sandwich. Visitation is scheduled for the preceding evening, Sunday, February 4th from 4-8 pm at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jennifer’s memory may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
