Handy, Margaret (Colaluca) of Cambridge and Sandwich, MA passed away on May 21 surrounded by family and friends. Born August 31, 1929 in Providence, Rhode Island to Adolfo and Clara (Pezzullo) Colaluca. Margaret was predeceased in 2023 by her beloved husband—her soulmate—Edward (Ned), with whom she shared 71 years of love, laughter, poetry, opera, and long walks on the beach in Sandwich, collecting shells and many friends along the way.
Margaret will be remembered and celebrated by her daughter, Jenifer Handy, son-in-law Steve Pittman, and their family: son Tristan and his wife Amelia and grandchildren Eric and Daniela. Margaret’s life and memory will also be cherished by her sister Theresa, many nieces and nephews, friends of a lifetime, and friends more recent, as well as her extended “family” of a generation of students and faculty at Harvard College where, for over 30 years, she was assistant to the Senior Tutor at Dudley House.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on June 11th at Our Lady of Hope Chapel in Barnstable, followed by burial at the Cummaquid Cemetery. Donations may be made in Margaret and Ned’s names to the Sturgis Library, 3090 Main St., Barnstable, MA 02630—the oldest building housing a public library in the United States.
