Born in Wareham, Massachusetts to Nancy (Upton) and Barry Harrington (Nancy later married John Gallo), Michael attended Bourne High school, where he was an avid football and basketball player. He worked as a bridge painter/ sandblaster for 38 years. He enjoyed watching all New England sports teams. He also enjoyed motocross racing, which he later introduced to his only son, Mikey. He loved anything that had to do with the ocean, whether it was swimming or a walk on the canal. He always was cracking jokes, making people smile and laugh; whether he was at work or at home. Michael always had words of wisdom to share. His presence was known whenever he walked into a room. He always saw the good in people. Family was very important to him, as he said, “You have your family and a few close friends.” He was a very giving person; he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Michael was an organ donor, and was able to save three people’s lives with his donation to New England Donor Services. Michael married Terri (Ambrose) when he was 27 and they had three children. He later married Alison (Bartow) at 51 and thought of her son, the late Dylan Lane, as “one of his own.”
