Peter Duncan Scovill, affectionately known as “Scove” or “Buddy,” age 56, of Centerville, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Even in the hardest moments, his strength and resilience never wavered—a testament to the man he was and the deep love he held for his wife, family, and friends.
Peter is survived by his wife of 30 years, Leander (Dubreuil) Scovill. Peter and Leander met as teenagers, and their connection grew into a life lifetime of shared dreams, countless adventures, and a friendship that carried them through life’s most beautiful and most difficult moments.
Born on June 5, 1969, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, MA, Peter was the son of the late Raymond and Janice (Walsh) Scovill. He grew up at 394 Quaker Meeting House Road, where he could often be found playing in the dirt with Tonka trucks or Matchbox cars, riding dirt bikes, or working on one of his many project cars—a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Peter became a proud member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen Union Local 3 MA. Over more than 30 years, he dedicated himself to building schools, police stations, and fire stations across New England. He cared deeply for the people he worked alongside, and his friendships with “the boys” endured through the decades. His strong work ethic reflected both his upbringing and the skills passed down from his father.
Peter’s greatest passion was working on hot rods. He was always looking for ways to make them faster, occasionally indulging in a burnout or a quick rev of the engine—much to the delight of his wife. Creative and hands‑on, he loved being around the house, constantly dreaming up new projects.
On weekends, Peter and Leander could be found cruising around the Cape in one of his meticulously detailed cars. They enjoyed ice cream on warm days and coffee and donuts during the winter months. These outings became a cherished weekly tradition, filled with laughter and the familiar exchange of “Stop driving so fast” from Leander and “Do you want to drive?” from Peter.
Peter is also survived by his siblings: Raymond Scovill, Sharon Beaudette, Janet Miller and her husband Keith, Rich Scovill and his wife Sandy, Sandy Cullinan and her husband Jim, and John Scovill; as well as his mother‑in‑law, Barbara Dubreuil. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with his beloved cats, Willy and Roxy. Peter was fortunate to have lifelong friendships that spanned decades—friends who became family in every way, sharing with him countless memories, adventures, and milestones. They will forever remember his laughter, his unwavering loyalty, and the salty humor that made him unmistakably Peter.
