

Mr. Richard James O’Neil, of Sandwich, formerly of Watertown, passed peacefully with his family by his side on May 5th. He was the beloved husband of the recently deceased Lillian Kelly O’Neil with whom he shared 57 years.
Dick served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was a decorated combat veteran serving with the 2nd Division 5th Marines during the Korean War. Dick retired in 1988 from the Town of Watertown after 35 years of service as a lineman and then electrical inspector. Strong in faith, Dick’s greatest joys in life were his family and his grandchildren.
He leaves behind his seven children; Daniel and his wife Kathy of Medfield, Peter and his wife Julie of Burlington, Paul and his wife Karen of Manchester, NH, Christopher and his wife Nancy of Watertown, Judy (McMorrow) and her husband Colm of Sandwich, Philip of Templeton, and Janet (Lucey) and her husband John of Needham. Cherished grandfather to his 14 grandchildren; Jennifer, Colin, Conor, Danielle, Ryann, Lauren, Madison, Jack, Kevin, Brian, Thomas, Sarah, Erin, and Kara. Dear brother of Barbara Thornton, Edward, Kenneth, David, Brian, Sarah (Sally) Alexson, and the late George Jr., Robert, Donald, and Mary Lu McGilvary.
Visiting Hours will be held Sunday May 11 from 2pm-5pm in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, Route 6A Sandwich. Funeral Mass will be held Monday May 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd. East Sandwich. Burial with Military Honors to follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Corpus Christi Parish of Sandwich.
