Born in Waltham, MA on April 12, 1937, he was the son of the late Burpee Charles and Eva M. (Bernier) White Sr.
Dick grew up in the Readville section of Boston and worked in his family contracting business, "Burpee C. White Trucking, Rigging and Crane Service" through his young adult life until its dissolution in the late 1980's. His next stage of life drew him to Sandwich, MA, on Cape Cod where he built their home and developed his 9+ acre property into its current extensive garden/arboretum.
Dick was passionately involved with some form of agriculture most of his adult life. This included mentoring vegetable gardeners in the Boston area early on. Once on Cape Cod he was an active member of the American Rhododendron Society, The American Rose Society and the Master Gardeners Association of Barnstable County.
Dick played hockey in high school with a championship team. He later played in senior men's (over 35) hockey leagues where he enjoyed the sport into his 50's. Of course, he also enjoyed watching the Patriots
Dick was a beloved member of his extended family and will be greatly missed by them as well as his many friends and acquaintances.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the VNA McCarthy Care Center or the American Cancer Society in his memory is suggested.
