

LUKAS, Stanley “Stan” W. 79 of Sandwich, Ma, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Cambridge, MA to the late Ethel Casserly (Hansen) and Stanley J. Lukas, on August 13, 1945.
Stan grew up in Malden, MA and graduated from Malden High School. Following high school, Stan joined The United States Marine Corps. With the Marines, Stan went to Vietnamese language school and then was deployed to Vietnam where he served as a Radio Operator. He earned a Purple Heart amongst other awards and recognitions. Upon his return from Vietnam, Stan served as a Jump Master with the Marine Corps.
Following his military service, Stan met and married his wife, Nancy. They, along with their two daughters moved to New Hampshire where Stan served on the police force. The family then moved to New York, where Stan served as a U.S. Deputy Marshal in Buffalo, NY, and then in Albany, NY. Stan retired from the U.S. Deputy Marshal’s office out of Boston, MA.
In New York, Stan was a “46er” having climbed the 46 high peaks in New York State. His hobbies and interests over the years included hiking, camping, canoeing, Ham radio operation, learning and practicing French, driving his motorcycle, and connecting with members of the Blue Knights, as well as with his Battalion from Vietnam.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, to whom he was married for 53 years, by his daughters, Jennifer Hemr and her husband Karl, Kate Golbitz and her husband Seth, his four grandchildren, Ava, Eli, Luke and Faelan, and by his two brothers, Charles (Chuck) and John Casserly and their families.
Stan is predeceased by his mother, Ethel Casserly, his father, Stanley J. Lukas, his stepfather, Charles Casserly, and his sister, Ethel Lukas.
While Stan was quietly proud of his accomplishments, he was never one to boast or brag. Above all, he loved his family, and he was a good friend. While he was a man who fought many battles, he was intentionally contemplative, he made amends when and where needed, and he was a good man.
Visitation will be held Tuesday March 18th from 9-10:30 am at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am, Our Lady of Hope Parish 1581 Main St. W. Barnstable, Ma, we will process to Massachusetts National Cemetery after for a 12:45pm burial.
