Alan “Buddy” Herschel Rubinson, age 91 of Atlanta, Ga. Passed away Saturday April 19 2025. Known as Buddy (to his family and friends given his nickname by his late sister Harriette Gilbert) was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. While growing up in Atlanta with many friends he was part of Junior Aleph Organization (JAO). He attended Clark Howell Elementary School, O’Keef Middle School and Grady High School later transferring to Staunton Military Academy (Staunton, Va. from 1949 to 1951). Then attended Georgia Tech from 1951- 1955, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management. After graduating he served in the Navy from 1955- 1957.
After being discharged from the Navy he started his own business “ Buddy's Toy and Sporting Store (Columbus and Forest Park, Ga. From 1957 to 1973). He then met his wife Carol Rubinson and married her in 1962 where they lived in Chamblee, Ga and raised four kids (Roger, Debra, Jay & David).Then in 1973 he started a career with Hill Manufacturing for the next 45 years selling chemicals to many businesses across the Atlanta area. He retired from Hill in 2018.
Buddy loved attending sporting events and boating with his friends and family. He would spend many weekends on Lake Lanier and Altoona boating. His favorite past time was watching any Georgia Tech Sporting event, especially football. Other favorite teams he loved to follow were the Atlanta Crackers and Braves. He attended 18 plus Major League Baseball Stadiums, Baseball and Football Hall of Fames. You could always catch Buddy watching a game on tv.
Buddy also enjoyed playing with his grand children Steven and Richard Sexton. He would play baseball and many other games with them in their backyard.
Buddy passed away shortly after his wife Carol Rubinson passed in March this year. He is survived by his children Jay and David Rubinson, Debra & Bren (husband) Sexton, grand children Richard, Steven & Halle (wife) Sexton, great grand children James and Ellah. And many Nieces and Nephews. He is pre-deceased by his oldest son Roger Rubinson, sister Harriette Gilbert, father Arthur “Archie” Rubinson and mother Dora Gold Rubinson.
Graveside services will be held at Arlington Memorial Park Sandy Springs, Ga. Monday April 21st at 1pm.
