Betty Jean Thomas Lewis went home to be with her Lord on October 23, 2021. She was born April 4, 1928, the first daughter of Constantine Duncan Thomas and Virginia Raisbeck Thomas. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and relocating to Atlanta at 3 Months, she grew up in the Morningside neighborhood. She graduated from Washington Seminary in 1947, and then attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu fraternity, graduating with a degree of in Home Economics. In 1950, she married Russell James Lewis of Danville, Virginia. Residing in Atlanta her entire life, she taught at Morris Brandon Elementary school was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years. She is survived by her two children, Laura Ann Lewis Johnson (Don) of Pratt, Kansas, and Thomas Edward Lewis of Augusta, Georgia; grandchildren C.J. Galarza (Chris); Elijah Thomas Lewis (Virginia); Caleb Johnson Lewis (Melissa); and Kevin Blane Johnson; and one great-granddaughter Alexis Lucile; and two beloved nieces, Valee Sewell Penn (Dave); Kay Sewell Lore (Steve).
A private service for family will be held and a celebration of will be announced at a later date.
