

Carl Donald Strickland, 87, of Atlanta, Georgia went home to Heaven on June 11, 2022. Donald was born in Birmingham, on January 7, 1935. The youngest of three children, he was the son of the late Clara and Dewey Strickland and the brother of the late David Strickland and Joyce Payne. He attended West End High School where he was a star basketball player and scholar. He then went to Auburn University and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers until 1962. He worked for many years for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, NaCon, and Tampa Tank. He and his high school sweetheart, Shirley Harris, were married for 54 years until her death in 2010. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Maria Dorger, who lovingly cared for him until his death. He is also survived by his two children, Cindy McDonald (John) of Asheville, NC and Bobby Strickland (Don) of South Bend, IN.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta for many years. He enjoyed drawing and painting, gardening, building model airplanes, playing golf and following sports on TV. He made many loyal and life-time friends. He will be forever remembered for his generous spirit, his patriotism and his life of integrity.
A graveside service will be held on June 15 at 1:00 at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA. 30328.
