

ORR, Clyde, Jr., 88, of Dunwoody, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta. He was born October 1, 1921, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, the son of Clyde Orr, Sr. and Brownie Lusby Orr. Dr. Orr was a retired Regents’ Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a co-founder, with Warren Hendrix, of Micromeritics Instrument Corporation, a company that for more than forty years has been a leader in the field of fine particle technology. He was a veteran of WWII, having served on board the USS Ottawa (AKA-101) as a Radar Officer in the Pacific theatre.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gardner Orr. He is survived by his four children, Donald Orr, Douglas Orr, Jeanne Thomas and Lynne Strickland, and by their spouses, Marcia Knight, Nancy Hodge, Clyde Thomas and Bob Strickland. He is survived also by his four grandchildren, Kemper Orr, Lydia Orr, Aaron Thomas and Danny Strickland. He is survived also by brothers-in-law Carl Gardner, M.D., Robert Gardner, and Jim Weatherly; sister-in-law Betty Gardner; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00pm on Saturday, September 25, at H. M. Patterson & Son, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA, 30328. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, September 26, at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mount Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338-4181.
