David Stockard LeCraw, at the age of 76, passed away on Monday February 19, 2024 at home in Eatonton, GA. He was born December 30, 1947 in Norwalk, CT to Charles Stockard LeCraw, Jr. and Margaret Mason Towers. He spent his early childhood years in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Atlanta, GA at the age of 16. He was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy (now Woodward Academy) and was inducted into the US Army in December 1968. He was honored to serve in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star. After returning to Atlanta from Vietnam, he attended Georgia State University where he obtained an MBA in Finance.
Like all good fathers, David was influential in his children’s lives. A childhood spent rolling coins with and a love of numbers learned at her dad’s home office resulted in his daughter becoming a CPA. And David was extraordinarily proud to be part of multiple generations of Eagle Scouts, which included his father and son.
David was an avid tennis player and scuba diver. He and his wife of over 25 years, Lynn, traveled around the world and accumulated over 600 dives. In recent years, Lynn and David moved to Lake Oconee and enjoyed many summers with their children and grandchildren on the lake. When family was not there, you could find him sitting by the lake with a cigar, his Kindle, and a glass of red wine with his beloved boxer, Bandit, by his side.
David started his real estate career in 1972 and formed The LeCraw Company in 1981. Early in his career, David was a member of the Northeast Atlanta Metro Association, where he served as President in 1990. He also served on the board of directors for the Atlanta Commercial Board for many years. David was honored as REALTOR of the Year in 1991 and his consistent performance in the million-dollar club earned him the Phoenix Award and the Silver Phoenix Award. His induction into the 2024 Hall of Fame with the Georgia Association of REALTORS© stands as a testament to his successful career. As President of GAR in 2002, David’s leadership was instrumental. Serving in various capacities, he achieved the distinction of being the first person to serve two terms as VP of Finance. David’s contributions also extended to facilitating real estate transactions for GAR, including the sale of the old GAR office building, and facilitating the purchase of the new office building.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; son Mark LeCraw (Katie); daughter Megan Worth (Aaron); step-son Brandon Mears (Lindsey); step-daughter Ashlyn Windley (Carl); grandchildren: Eliza LeCraw, Allie LeCraw, Hall Mears, Hudson Worth, Mason Worth, Vivian Mears, Glenn Kathryn Mears, Olivia Windley; sister: Valerie Gay LeCraw Love (Terrence); brother Scott LeCraw (Cynthia) and half-sister Linda LeCraw.
Beyond his personal achievements, his family and friends will always remember him for his quick wit, sense of humor, and the smell of his cigars.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at H.M. Patterson & Son with the internment immediately to follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by H.M.
