
Doris Patterson Crowley, age 84, died peacefully at home on July 10, 2012. Born in Atlanta on March 27, 1928, she was the daughter of Robert Claude Patterson (1878-1953) and Mary Elizabeth Jones Patterson (1902-1980). On March 19, 1949 she married Carl Allen Crowley, Jr., who predeceased her on April 1, 1988. Her brother, Carroll Ruffin Patterson (1919-1991), also predeceased her. She is survived by her four sons, Carl A Crowley, III (Carol), Robert Steven Crowley (Terry), Michael Frazier Crowley (Sandra) and Bruce Patterson Crowley, MD (Laura) seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many friends.
A native Atlantan, Doris grew up on St. Charles Avenue and attended North Avenue Presbyterian School (later to become the Westminster Schools) and Wesleyan College in Macon Georgia. After raising her sons she resumed her studies at Georgia State University and for many years served as a volunteer on the maternity floor at Georgia Baptist Hospital (throughout her life, she never tired of holding babies). The family wishes to thank Audrey Cox for her devoted care and guidance. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Park at 201 Mount Vernon Hwy, NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Children's Foundation of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
