Dr. Charles Cornelius Rife and Jewell Blevins Rife, her sister, Charlotte Rife Rowell, all of Atlanta. She is survived by her son Jody Bernard Danneman, his wife Sally Lee Danneman, and her granddaughter, Marianne Elizabeth Danneman. She is also survived by her nephew, Michael Lee Rowell, his wife Judy Purvis Rowell, great nephew, John Phillips Rowell and great niece, Lauren Lee Rowell, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dottie graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta and attended Cornell University for two years before transferring to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville to get her degrees in English and Psychology. She loved being a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.
She began her career at Southern Bell and moved up the ranks to become one of the first female leaders of the company. Following her retirement from the telephone company, Dottie spent some time in real estate. She finished her career returning to her psychology degree by serving as a counselor in a medical practice, which ultimately led to her becoming the practice manager.
Dottie loved being a Presbyterian. She was an active member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church. There, she participated in the Women of the Church and the Martha Wilson Sunday School class, where she served as class president.
In her spare time, Dottie loved to play bridge with her colleagues from Southern Bell and later with those in the various communities she lived. Her favorite activity was dancing the night away with her loving husband to the big band sounds at various venues around Atlanta.
A private, graveside service will be held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to Presbyterian Homes of Georgia’s Caring Hands Fund via mail at PO Box 926, Quitman, GA 31643, or through their website:
