Elizabeth Stanley Springer was born on November 17, 1956, in Augusta, Georgia, and was the eldest daughter of Frederick Hugh Springer, Jr., and Betty Clark Springer. Known as “Beth,” she was a cherished first grandchild on both sides of her family and fondly remembered time spent with her grandparents in Lyons, Georgia, and Atlanta, Georgia.
An accomplished student and musician, Beth graduated from North Augusta High School in North Augusta, South Carolina, in 1974. She attended Emory University and the University of Georgia, where she studied mathematics and speech communication and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
An early adopter of computer technology, Beth dedicated much of her adult life to building a successful career in information technology and data management. Over the course of her expansive career, she was employed by Lanier Business Products, Southern Bell, Mitel, Equifax, Honeywell, Ziff Davis, Union Pacific Railroad, IBM, and Accenture. Her professional work afforded her extensive travel throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada. She lived in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1990s and spent most of her adult life in the Atlanta area.
Beth attended The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta and was raised as part of the church family at St. John United Methodist Church in Augusta.
In retirement, Beth lived in Roswell and Sandy Springs, Georgia, where she volunteered her IT services to nonprofit organizations, including Junior Achievement. She adopted her beloved dogs, Jenny and Abby, and remained a devoted companion to her parents. Beth was a voracious reader of suspense novels, often finishing them cover to cover in rapid succession. She relished in a good, strong cup of coffee and collecting antiques. She enjoyed family reunions in south Georgia, long walks, and especially time spent on the beach at Isle of Palms, South Carolina.
Friends, classmates, colleagues, and relatives remember Beth for her “big laugh.” If she found something funny, anyone within earshot knew.
Beth passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 69, in Atlanta, following a battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her two sisters, Dr. Mary Land (Rick) of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Linda Read (David) of Atlanta, Georgia; three nephews, Dr. Charles Land (Hannah), Dr. James Land (Anneliese), and Taylor Read; one niece, Maggie Huffman (Chris); and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Beth’s many caregivers at Dunwoody Place and Legacy Ridge Buckhead, and is especially grateful for the care, kindness, and dedication of Shirley Brown.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time when Beth’s remains will be interred at Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Atlanta alongside those of her parents who predeceased her. Gifts in memory of Beth may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
