Frederick ("Fred") Allan Miller, 85, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away on January 26, 2023. He was the only child of John Philip Miller and Mary Ellen Shinkle of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and the husband of Susan Catherine (Laskey) Miller. He was born and raised in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and lived there prior to attending Elon College in Elon, North Carolina for three years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served for four years, with his last duty station being in the Aleutian Chain, Alaska. He then moved to Anchorage, Alaska where he was employed with Delta Air Lines for 36 years. Two years prior to his retirement from Delta, in 2000, he transferred down to Atlanta, Georgia where he has resided ever since.
Fred is survived by his wife, Susan, and his three (3) children: Shannon Victoria Miller of Anchorage, Alaska; Rachel Amaris Sullivan (Cameron) of Saratoga Springs, Utah; and John Frederick Miller of Copenhagen, Denmark; as well as four (4) grandchildren: Jacob, Abigail, Grace, and Emma Sullivan of Saratoga Springs, Utah.
Fred was extremely patriotic and was very proud that his direct ancestors fought in the American Revolution as well as in the Civil War. He was very well read and was knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects. He loved aviation, meteorology, zoology, geology, American and British history, genealogy (family history), and politics. Fred was a very kind and modest man and was well liked. Just as his son John once said, "to know him is to love him." He was a good, honorable man who was a devout follower of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who was a convert to the church, and, at the time of his death, had three generations of members of the church in his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the H.M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel located at 173 Allen Road, N.E., Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328. The visitation will be held at 1:00 pm. with the service following at 2:00 p.m. At a later date, Fred will be buried at Rolling Green Cemetery, located at 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, 17011 at his parents’ family gravesite.
