

Guy Edward Stryker, age 84, passed away Tuesday, the 27th of September 2016. He fought multiple health problems valiantly right until the end. Guy was born in Portland, Oregon on May 7, 1932, the son of Guy Q Stryker, a Spanish-American war veteran of Dutch descent and Kathleen Shaw, a surgical nurse of Scottish-English descent. Guy excelled at cross country during high school. After high school he joined the US Navy and was stationed on two aircraft carriers, first the USS Bataan and then the USS Oriskany. While in the Navy, Guy reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Jean Czesla. He proposed at the Top of the Mark in San Francisco and they were married July 9, 1955. They had two children, Pamela Stryker Mayfield (Anthony) and Carl Edward Stryker (Barbara). They also had three grandchildren, Jason (Jessica), Jeanette (Nathan), and Gregory (Jamie) Moss and 4 great grandchildren. In 1983 Guy and Jean moved to Atlanta along with their son, Carl to start an insurance company. Guy was active in the company until 2010. Guy converted to Catholicism after his marriage to Jean, thus beginning a lifelong commitment in service to the church. He was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11402, serving as Grand Knight and later District Deputy. He also served as Faithful Navigator of the Charles Watters Fourth Degree Assembly. Guy is survived by his two children, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister Kathleen Thompson of San Jose, California, sister and brother in law, Joyce and Joel Becker of Spokane, Washington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Saturday October 1 from 6-8 PM at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church on Monday, Oct 3 at 10:30 AM followed by interment at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to: St Vincent de Paul Society or Knights of Columbus Council 11402.
