Helen Cook Lynch, of Sandy Springs, passed away May 19, 2016. Helen was born and raised in Kentucky. She attended Western Kentucky University, where she graduated with a B. S. Degree in Business Administration/Business Education in 1961. She successfully completed numerous graduate and continuing education courses in management, education and real estate. She met the love of her life, Paul while attending Western and they married in 1961. Helen and Paul along with their son Craig moved to the Atlanta area in 1967. It was at this time that she began to make an impact on this community. At the beginning of her career she worked in the field of education. Her involvement included teaching at the high school and collegiate level in both Nashville and Atlanta. She was involved in educational research as the Director of the Division of Aesthetic Education for Southeastern Education Laboratory. She also served as an Educational Consultant for The Viking Press and The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. She first entered the real estate community in 1977 and it is here that she has touched so many. She began as a Sales Associate with Northside Realty and concluded her career as Senior Vice-President, Managing Broker with Harry Norman Realtors. Helen held numerous leadership positions throughout her career serving on countless committees, the Board of Directors for both the Atlanta Board of Realtors and the Georgia Association of Realtors. Additionally she served as past president and former governor of the Women’s Council of Realtors. She achieved the professional designations of GRI (Graduate Realtor Institute) and SRES (Senior Real Estate Specialist). In the days since her passing many have shared her impact on them. Most everyone speaks of her as their friend and mentor, someone who always had time for them, regardless of the topic. One agent said “She always knew what to say whether it was words of advice on a real estate issue or simply words of encouragement in life.” Others speak of an incredible woman who made everyone better and of an amazing leader who led by example. She and her agents were a family. She was their matriarch in the truest and kindest sense of the word. They looked up to her, revered her and loved her as their mother. She was a lady of class and professionalism who made a difference in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her. In addition to her real estate family she adored her immediate family. Her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews were the light of her life. She always had time for them and surrounded herself with pictures when she wasn’t able to be with them. Her generous spirit was evident in all that she did. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Lynch and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kara Lynch; grandchildren, Kasey and Connor Lynch; and brother, Billy Cook. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 4 to 6 o’clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 11 o’clock at Sandy Springs Christian Church with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Gotha, FL. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities at 678-704-8082 or www.ARMHC.org. Please reference in memory of Helen C. Lynch.
