James Lee Cross

James Lee Cross, MD, 92 years old, of Canton, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Dr. Cross was born on March 24, 1931 in Walsenburg, Colorado to the late Rufus Yates Cross and Ellamae Johnson Cross. Dr. Cross was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Rebecca Willard Cross and his brother Rufus Yates Cross, Jr. (Bud).

He is survived by his children: Barbara, Bobby, Richard, J.B. and Larry. Dr. Cross has several nieces, nephews, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two more on the way.

After graduating Medical School at the Medical College of Georgia and residency at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Cross served as physician and Captain in the Air Force at the base in Amarillo, Texas. After his service, Dr. Cross, started a private medical practice providing obstetrics and gynecological medical care to the women of Atlanta and Canton Georgia. He delivered thousands of babies and saved countless lives across all of North Georgia. So many received the benefit of his medical skills and he taught so many other doctors how to better practice. He was truly a Doctor’s Doctor.

Dr. Cross was a caring doctor and a strong fan of his alma mater, the University of Georgia Bulldogs…GO DAWGS! would often be heard coming out of his mouth on Saturdays in the fall. On other days, he also enjoyed golfing at Cherokee Country Club in his spare time. He truly loved the game of golf, and traveled the world with his wife golfing everywhere from the Links of St. Andrews in Scotland, to Pebble Beach, and the sand traps of Hawaii.
