

James “Jim or Jimmy” Owen Gambol, 69, of Duluth passed away on Friday, the 2nd of October, 2015. Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Jim was born on the 3rd of October, 1946, the son of the late Claire and Ed Clayton Gambol. Jim served in the U. S. Army and was an infantryman during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He moved to the Atlanta area in 1979 where he worked for Honeywell for 15 years; he ran his own window washing business for a number of years and later retired from Delta Air Lines. Jim was an avid baseball player and was inducted into the Greater Akron area Baseball Hall of Fame. Jim continued his love for the game by coaching his daughter’s softball teams at Murphy Candler Park. Known for his very quick wit, he always kept everyone laughing and never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Alana and two daughters, Kara Galbraith (Marc) and Jamie Brewer (Matthew); five grandchildren, Evy and Ryan Galbraith, William, Jackson, and Caroline Brewer; and sister, Joanne Noll (Ron) of Zeeland, MI. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, the 8th of October, 2015 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Sardis United Methodist Church, 3725 Powers Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, New York, NY 10006. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from ten o’clock until the hour of service at the church.
